How does the shared space for couples work?

Question from our Discord (anonymized):

How does budget sharing with a partner work — does the partner need to have an account too? What can they see and what can’t they?

Answer (updated October 2026)
You can add a partner or family member to your Martia account — up to four people besides yourself. In Settings, under Account Members, select Add Person and enter their email address. When that person logs into Martia with that email, your account will appear automatically without them needing to click a link.

Does the partner need an account? They log into Martia with their own email address, but they don’t need their own subscription — the account owner pays for it. They keep their own account and can switch between accounts at any time.

What an added person can see and do:

  • see your entire account: conversations with Martia, expenses, categories, and budgets — it’s one account, so the conversation history is shared,
  • chat with Martia, correct categories, and refresh bank data.

What they can’t do:

  • connect, disconnect, or reconnect banks, or import files,
  • change the subscription, delete accounts, or add and remove people.

You can remove a person or cancel an invitation at any time, and they can leave your account on their own.

Done: Adding People to Your Account

Sharing Martia is now available. Instead of linking two separate accounts, you add a partner or family member to your account by email address — up to four people. The reply in the first post of this thread already describes how the new system works.
