Same person as two contractors (Jan Kowalski vs Jan Andrzej Kowalski)

Question from Our Discord (anonymized):

The same person appears in different banks under different name variants, so in my analysis I have two entries. It would be nice to get a merge suggestion — and for this to work the same way for husband/wife.

Answer
Automatic merge suggestions don’t exist yet — it’s on the list. We want Martia to detect potential duplicates based on name similarity (and IBAN if available), ask you for permission, and after merging treat the history and future as one counterparty. A decision that “this is not the same person” should be remembered so we don’t ask again.

What works today:

  • for companies: Martia recognizes the same company across different banks (this is already implemented for standing orders),
  • for people: tell it in the chat in one sentence — “Jan Kowalski and Jan Andrzej Kowalski are the same person” or “this is my husband” — Martia will remember this hint and use it in subsequent responses,
  • for partner/spouse: in the shared space for couples, transfers between your accounts are recognized automatically, without explaining it to the chat.

Let us know in this thread how often this happens to you — it will help us decide whether to start with people or companies.

Still on the list: proposal to merge by name similarity (and IBAN, if available), with your consent, and remembering “not the same person”.

Today you get around this with one sentence in chat. A vote here tells us whether to start with individuals or with companies.
