Starting budget from a selected date /

Hi! I’ve been using Martia for a little while now and I really like the direction of the app, but there’s one feature I’m missing that’s actually crucial for my use case: the ability to start a budget from a selected date.

After connecting a few accounts, Martia downloaded about 2,300 historical transactions for me. I have 5-6 accounts, some of which I share with my fiancée, and on some accounts my personal and business (self-employed) payments are mixed together.

Because of this, I have a ton of transactions in my old history that I’m no longer able to properly categorize. For example, sometimes I paid taxes or business invoices with a regular transfer, and sometimes through inFakt, so all that shows on the account is AutoPay. After a few months, I have no way to figure out what exactly a given payment was for.

As a result, historical reports and statistics might look great visually, but I know the input data isn’t reliable. At the same time, I don’t want to manually correct thousands of transactions just to start using the app.

The ideal solution would be a “Start budget from…” / “Start fresh” type feature.

For example, I set it to September 1, 2026 and from that point on, Martia treats my data as the proper beginning of my budget tracking.

Transactions before that date could still remain in the history and search, but they shouldn’t affect:

  • reports and dashboard,
  • monthly averages,
  • trends,
  • budgets,
  • AI analysis,
  • month-to-month comparisons,
  • Martia’s questions that require categorizing old transactions.

It would also be really nice to keep the option of using the old history only for learning merchant names / automatic categorization, but without including its amounts in the analyses.

For me, it’s important not to have to delete accounts, remove transactions, or hide individual categories. I just want to tell Martia: “treat everything before this date as an archive, my real budget starts here”.

I think this would be useful not just for me. A new user connecting a few accounts might end up with thousands of transactions from recent months, and the older the history, the harder it is to categorize correctly. The ability to do a clean start would significantly lower the barrier to entry.

If the full version would be hard to implement, even a simple global filter “Don’t include transactions before [date] in analyses” would solve 90% of my problem.

Hey Kramar! I think this can be done, but tell me when you say “analyses”, which specific dashboards are you referring to? It would be best if you could send a screenshot.

I.e. the only dashboard where you basically can’t set this is the “Majatek” dashboard. The rest I see have filters, although my OCD is bothered by having so many “disorganized” data

I also used Tashi Finance for some time and they actually have this option when connecting with a bank, but I understand that it might be difficult to code.

Nevertheless, I’ll probably be switching to Martia, because the interface appeals to me more than Toshi and I prefer to support my fellow countrymen.

I’ll leave this suggestion anyway, it’s possible that more people will vote for this feature and it will be more profitable to implement.

Thanks for the clarification: there’s already a date filter on Expenses, but not on Assets — and the old tail is skewing the averages.

We’re putting this on the list as a single “archive” date: transactions before it remain in the history and can train categories, but they don’t factor into reports, trends, budgets, or Martia’s questions about old clutter. Without deleting accounts and without manually correcting thousands of entries.

Vote when voting opens — this is one of the clearer signals that the entry barrier is too high.
