Do I understand correctly that you can’t use the app without paying for a subscription? Maybe you could offer a free plan for accounts without linking a bank?

Martia has no free plan, and we’re upfront about this when you create an account — before you link any bank. The first month costs €1, then €9 per month or €59 per year. You can cancel anytime, and deleting your account doesn’t require an active subscription (see the thread “How to Delete Your Account and Revoke Banking Permissions” in this category).
Why is there no “free, no bank” plan? Because all of Martia’s value comes from your real transactions. Every connection to a bank costs us from our open banking provider (PSD2) — it’s a per-active-consent fee, not a flat rate. A bank-free version would be a shell: without data, there’s nothing to categorize or ask about. We prefer one honest price over a free plan that sells your data or shows ads.
