Question from Our Discord (anonymized):
Does the system recognize internal transfers? Credit card payments and transfers from my personal account to my business account were inflating my expenses.
Answer
They don’t count — provided that both accounts are connected to Martia. A transfer between your own accounts is neither an expense nor income, so we exclude it from both sides of the statistics (also retroactively, for historical reports).
How Martia recognizes internal transfers: matching by amount and date between your accounts, IBAN matching, Revolut sub-accounts, card top-ups, currency exchange, and descriptions like “OWN TRANSFER”. Details: https://martia.pl/transfery-miedzy-wlasnymi-kontami
If you see a transfer treated as an expense, the other account almost certainly isn’t connected — then we have no way of knowing it’s your account and not, say, a relative with the same last name. Two options: connect the other account (recently, adding an account also improves classification of earlier transfers and historical reports) or mark the transfer manually — Martia will remember your decision and ask about similar cases before showing a report.
